Magnetic assemblies are
components made from permanent magnets and steel parts (and/or some non-ferrite
magnetic insulate materials, such as Brass and Aluminum) fixed or bonded
together. Thanks to the magnetic field design, a magnetic assembly has a
particular magnetic circuit that can concentrate or insulate magnetic power at a
target space around the magnetic assembly. In this way, magnetic assemblies can
be utilized for holding, retrieving, moving, lifting and mounting steel parts in
different industrial applications.
Armstrong Magnetics makes, stores
and supplies
Ceramic Magnet Assemblies,
Neodymium Assemblies ,
Rubber Coated Magnet
Assemlies .
Armstrong Magnetics has Off-The-Shelf magnetic assemblies ready for prompt
shipment. Please check and choose right magnetic assemblies from Stock Sizes of
above magnetic assemblies, or give us your drawings and/or requirements of
magnetic assemblies for custom made magnet assemblies.
Most of your concern on a magnet assembly probably is its pulling or holding
force in your application. We state "Maximum Pull" to each magnet assembly
listed in our Stock Sizes, which is tested while the magnet assembly is
vertically pulled off a 1/2" thick machined soft steel plate at 68°F.
The steel plate in the test is flat, smooth, clean and placed on level! But your
actual applications normally are not that. You have to consider and factor the
following conditions while choosing our magnet assemblies:
Rusty, rough, uneven and painted surface of your part could produce a gap and
reduce touch area between the part and the magnet assembly and significantly
reduce pull force.
Thinner steel plate contacted with magnetic assembly can not absorb total of
magnetic flux emanating from the permanent magnet and obliviously reduce pull
force.
Inclined or vertical application could not reduce Pull Force a lot, but Pull
Force is not the Shear Force that holds your part in position. Holding your part
in position depends pull force, friction and slope between the magnet assembly
and the part.
Higher temperature reduce or even completely remove magnetic power from magnet
assembly. Please refer to magnetic property of permanent magnets in pages
introducing individual permanent magnet.
Therefore, we strongly recommend you
test actual pulling or holding force of magnet assembly in your
application, instead of simply depending on the Maximum Pull, and consider
safety factor before you buy magnetic assemblies.
Most magnetic assemblies are
assembled, magnetized and tested in our Bellingham plant.
